Finishing the Swarm!

Yay!! It's finally finished! I've gone through and based all the Gaunts for my swarm. I haven't had a chance to play my adjusted list, yet, but I may get a chance to do that next week, which would be great!

If you've been playing along at home (and why wouldn't you?) you'll know that the last step was basing all of my Gaunts. There's a lot of them, but I've discovered a way to do them quickly and still have it look good.

The Madness to my Method!
The reason why I left the basing until last was the wash that I use. The last time that I did this with a large number of models, I based them first and did the wash afterward. This ended up with a bunch of brownish spots and drips on the green flock. While this isn't an awful thing, it does detract a little from the appeal of the models. I decided this time to do it the other way around, and it's worked quite well!

Combination
The method I used to make it go more quickly than normal was to mix the water and glue on the brush. The reason for using water in the glue is to make it smoother so it actually covers the whole base so the flock can stick to it. What I've done before is squirted some glue out and mixed it with water, then used an old brush to apply it. This works well, but I came across a better way to do it. This time, I squirted a few drops of glue on the base of the model, then dipped the brush in water and used it to spread the glue around. This watered down the glue perfectly and meant I didn't have to spend time actually mixing it separately from the "painting it on" step. This may not sound like much, but even a few seconds saved per Gaunt adds up when you are doing a swarm like this.

Here's a pictorial journey of the basing process. After dipping the base in the flock, it's important to wipe off any excess glue or flock before it dries.
