Back in Black, Again! They need some additional paint work, and I still haven't found all the models. I know that I have some other models, and I know what container they are in, but I haven't found the container yet. (They say that three moves are about the equivalent of a fire in terms of property lost. I believe them.) While I am sure that I will be able to find them, I don't know how soon that will happen. In the meantime, I have to proceed as if I don't have those models. I took out all the models and catalogued them to see what I have available. 2x Haemonculus 108 Dracon: Agonizer, Pistol, Combat Drugs, Shadowfield, Plasma Grenades. Please note, this is not my Raider. I don't know the name of the owner of this, but I believe he's won at least one GT with them...
While this looks a great deal like an Air Force Army, it's really designed as a fast assault portal list. Two of the Raider squads (one of them being the one with a Webway portal) start on the board, each with a Haemonculus attached to the squad. (Don't put the two Webway portals together.) Both start out behind cover, then move 12 inches forward and disembark the squads slightly behind the Raiders. The Haemonculus with the Webway portal will detach from the squad. On the next turn, both the Webway portals will be opened (assuming both models are still in existence.) The plan is to ensure that at least one portal will be able to open. The one with the Haemonculus is safer, but I included one on a Sybarite in case the Haemonculus (which is an HQ choice) cannot start on the board. If both portals are very safe on turn 2, it could be even more effective to delay opening until turn 3. (If a unit comes in from reserves on a turn that the portal is not open, it will wait until the portal opens. Thus if the portal opening is delayed, the units will arrive all at once. This kind of army can do an incredible amount of damage in a short amount of time. The first time I experimented with this kind of army, I was playing a 3-way battle with Chaos Mike and Keil. Mike had a 1000pt Chaos Army, Keil had a 1000pt Space Marine army and I had a 1000pt Dark Eldar army. I started with just a Haemonculus on the board. The other two were so freaked out by my army that they agreed to fight me first. (Great, so now it's 2000pts vs 1000pts?) It ended up being a very interesting, but short-lived battle. Turn 1 I had only a Haemonculus on the board. Turn 2, almost all my units came in and tore holes in both Keil and Chaos Mike's forces. By turn 3, there were only a few ragged remnants of my forces left. By turn 4, those were gone. In the short time that my units were on the board, they managed to do about 500pts of damage to Mike's forces and about 600pts of damage, effectively tearing the heart out of both forces in more or less a single turn. (At the cost of all my units, of course, but it shows how powerful this kind of army can be.) I know that I'll need to do some painting to bring these guys back up to snuff. I'm leaning toward painting a freehand rune or symbol on each of them. That should look good but not take too long. In the meantime, I have also been coming up with more ways to use my Dark Eldar. I already have an alternative way of using them in mind, plus I have a very nasty variation (that would involve a number of models that I don't have at the moment, but could certainly get fairly easily and showcases their nastiness in an entirely different way!)
