Conversions
I've always been intrigued by conversions. Some of them are simple reposing of a figure, or a head or weapon swap. Others are complete re-imaginings of a figure or a total repurposing of it to something else entirely. While paintjobs can help enhance an effect, conversions offer poor or mediocre players the chance to add something interesting to their figures. (I say this from experience, that was part of why I've done a lot of conversions.) Conversions also offer good or outstanding painters a chance to make their work stand out from the crowd or help highlight their work. As a quick note, I do not own most of these models and I make no pretense of doing so. If this is your work, send me a note and I'll be happy to attribute it to you.

In the first part, I examined different types of conversion, but I left most of the complete re-imaginings for this part. (This doesn't mean they are necessarily the best, just that they are a very different take on the original idea.)

Jason "Doc" Dyer created these beer-swilling Grey Hunter models to keep an eye on his BloodClaws. Or at least to kick back and have a few beers while letting the "new kids" do the work!

title
I believe these are a higher-tech version of IG RoughRiders done by one of the GW guys (Dave Taylor?)

I don't remember where I found this online, but it's a cool retooling of a Farseer model with an Egyptian theme.

This is one of my own. I won't try to claim it's the best or anything, but it is quite the re-work. I took a Tomb Kings Ushabti model and sawed off the head. I used sculpy extensively here, with toothpicks as armatures for the arms and a round, wooden bead for a head. It was a gift for a friend that was very into The Nightmare Before Christmas that was curious about 40k.

This is a great re-imagining of Chaos Spawn done by Matt Birdoff of the NYC Warmonger club.

title
A very pestilent Nurgle lord on flying mount. I definitely like the carrion-fly sort of mount.

title
One thing I like about this model is that it isn't as pustule-covered as most things Nurgle, but it still gets the idea across very well.

title
This is a very simple conversion, but it is a great way to show the Shield Generator piece of wargear.

title
This is a really cool Slaanesh Daemon Prince sculpt that gives it a much more brawny feel than the standard.

title
I really like this representation of an armor save, with the model flying off it's feet!

title
Another fantastic Matt Birdoff idea. He wanted to run a Thousand Sons army as Squats. I believe he used dwarf legs and heads with Chaos Marine bodies and weapons.

title
This is another one of mine. It's based on my Dark Eldar background, and it represents the conversion of a Wraithlord into a Talos.

title
I'm pretty sure I saw this years ago on warpshadow.com, but I don't remember who did it. He was talking about doing a whole army this way, though I'm not sure if he completed it or not.

title
A totally reposed and resculpted Farseer really looking like he's gonna make the magic happen.

I hope you've enjoyed this visual tour through various conversion ideas, and even more, I hope it inspired you to do a bit of converting yourself. If you have some cool conversions or pictures of such, I'd love to see them. Just send them to the email below.
