Painting my new DeathWing Dreadnaught
The Boys in Bone needed a big brother, so I picked up a couple of Venerable Dreadnaughts for them. Another unit with full shooting capability on the move and solid assault capacity? Yes, please!

The Right Tool for the Job
A few weeks ago, I started to prime one of my Dreadnaughts, but I didn't have my Tank brush. It really took a very long time to do and was very frustrating. Today, I used the Tank brush and I got the whole thing painted in pretty close to the time that it took me to prime the other one. Lesson learned: it's definitely worthwhile using the right tool for the job.

Primed and Ready
I used Dheneb Stone to prime the Dreadnaught. It's a great color to go under such a light color as Bleached Bone, and it gives great coverage. (Strangely enough, since it's a Foundation Colour!) This was applied with a tank brush, as was mentioned above.

Seeing Spots
I wanted to use the tank brush to apply the base coat of Bleached Bone, and I wanted to go quickly. On the other hand, I didn't want to paint the areas that would eventually get the detail colors. I also didn't want to paint detail colors, then get a lot of Bleached Bone on them. I put a dot of each color on the areas that I'd be painting details on. Doing this ahead of time saved me a lot of time when I went on to the next step.

Bleached Bone
I put the Bleached Bone on (also with the Tank Brush) quickly, but made sure I had complete coverage. I also went back over a few areas that didn't seem dark enough from the first pass.

Detail Painting
I needed to use a standard brush for the detail colors. I still ran over on a few areas, so I made sure to do one final step.

Touch-Ups
After I finished with the detail colors, I went back and touched up the areas where I had painted a little beyond the lines with Bleached Bone. This final step is something a lot of people skip for reasons of time, but it doesn't take much time and makes a big difference in the appearance of the model.

Getting it Done!
Next up, I have a few bits to paint on my Terminators and then another Dreadnaught. That will make everything fully painted. After that, I need to look at basing and repaint the LandRaiders. While that's still a lot to go, the speed that the Dreadnaught came together really makes me feel good.
