State of the Warp Address
Hello, Gentle Reader. I'd like to take some time to explain what is going on with all my plans and projects, some of which you may know about, others of which may be surprises.
First, the projects to improve this website:
Background I'm still working on the background of the Main page and my earlier pages. (In case you are one of the lucky ones, like me, you may not have noticed that it causes peoples eyes to bleed. Ew.) I've tried to remedy it with neutral grey backgrounds on the newer pages, but they are a little blah and I would really like to use something steel-like at least on the main page, if not on every page. Well, I've got a couple of potential solutions, but they require me to devote a bit more time to try them out, make sure they work, then update all the pages. (I know, I know, "get on with it already, these bloody tears are heck on my mascara!" but the time I would be devoting to it would be time spent on making an update. You're reading this, aren't you? I'll do the update now. In the next few weeks I should have more time to get it done.)
The Girls of Warpstorm! Well, okay, a pictures page. I plan on putting up a gallery page, hopefully in the next week or two, so you can actually see a few pictures of my units, aside from the Hive Tyrant on the front page. I'm planning on keeping the page fairly limited, only featuring pictures of individual models or small units that are particularly photo-worthy. I know that everyone here knows what a Genestealer looks like, and the same goes for Terminators, so I might put in a single example of each at the most, just to show paint scheme, or special conversions. I want to keep load times down, and I don't want to bore anyone with stuff they've seen before.
Now, on to the armies:
Deathwing Well, I originally planned for this to be a big conversion project with the characters being the Fab Four in their Sergeant Pepper's regalia. While I've got a decent army together and I've (sort of) figured out how to use it, the converting part never really got off the ground. I've got a bunch of other projects in front of me, and this one is sort of taking a back seat. I'm not sure if I'll entirely scrap the idea, perhaps using it on another army (like Harlequins, if they ever come out!) or if I'll just eventually get around to doing it. For now, however, they are simply the Elite Shock Troopers of the Doom Eagles. If a 40k tournament comes up, this is the army I am most likely to play, however, since it's got a pretty good paint job, is fast to setup and take down and play and is easy to transport. In addition, should I need to expand it on short notice, it'll be easier than my Dark Eldar were.
Tyranids They are a fun army to play, but I really need to update their paintjobs and replace battle damaged bitz and do some fairly extensive work. They will reappear, I've been playing them too long and enjoy being a Tyranid General too much to forget them, but I'm not likely to do anything with them soon. On the other hand, they may see some action in some form at the Seattle GT next year, so that could get me working on them sooner, we'll see. Go Geeks!!
Dark Eldar They are finished for now. I will need to update their paintjob at some point in the future, and I will probably toy around with creating a shooty army from them, but again, this army is on the back burner for a while. I've got a good, playable army, albeit with a "gamer's quality" paintjob J so these won't be modified for a while, though I'll probably still drag them out to play once in a while. I started out as a Dark Eldar General, and I won't be giving that up, I'm just finished doing modifications to them for now.
So, Now What? Okay, so I won't be doing much to any of my 3 current 40k armies, so now what? Well, it's Fantasy for me, baby! I've gotten into Orcs and Goblins, Ye Olde Schoole Style, and I've got a few fun ideas for our favorite fungoids.
First off, I'm planning on this being one of my better, if not best, painted armies, despite the fact that there will likely be more of them than all my 40k armies put together. So far I've painted one Orc, and I'm quite pleased with it. I'll need to do my painting assembly line style to streamline my time here. In addition, as I get used to the paint scheme, it should go more automatically anyway. I'll also be painting all of the models of a similar style at the same time, to keep that automatic theme going as well. (Current ones are all Orcs with Choppas, then Goblin Wolfriders, then Orcs with Sword and Shield, etc. that way I can remember exactly what I painted how from one model to the next without having to think about it as much.) I'm also planning on painting my Wolfriders next because they are relatively expensive, meaning I'll be able to field a small chunk of points fairly quickly, letting me get a game or two in. With those games under my belt, it should keep me enthused about painting the rest of my green hordes, in addition to getting me more familiar with the game.
Next off, I am actively pursuing the idea of Da Biggah Da Waagh, which I briefly outlined in this article Into the Great Green Yonder. Essentially the idea is that Orcs keep growing throughout their lives until they meet a bigger Orc who puts them in their place. Well, what if an Orc never met a bigger one? The "leader" of the army will be a Giant model converted to look like a really big Orc. I'm currently planning on giving him some sort of large mug of Fungus beer to explain why he is so clumsy. (Giants are known for falling down a lot!) He'll have a unit of Trolls modeled to look like big Orcs. They will be his Big 'Un bodyguard. Then I'll have units of normal Orcs and Gobbos (including the madcap Night Goblins) and even some Snotlings to round out the size range for Orcs. For the actual leadership of the army, I'll likely use Goblin Shaman characters. I will probably use two of them to do the voice-over bit I discussed in the great green article as well, since it's just too much fun to pass up. I will, of course, be using the 100-gobbo unit as well, since it's also too crazy to pass up.
