Superior Links

When I was just starting out in 40k, I searched around online to find out more about it. There are quite a few websites devoted to 40k, but most of them don’t have useful information. Either they only have some pictures and a bunch of attitude along the lines of, “My (insert army name here) can take on any other army in the world and win without breaking a sweat,” or they were last updated 3 years ago and just had a half-finished army list. For a while I was happy finding sites like those and looking at pictures of everybody’s models (the same models, painted in the same way, with no conversions or anything) and the eye-catching graphics that took forever to load. That didn’t last very long, however. I have found a few sites over time that really have a lot of actual good content, not just graphics and attitude, and I’d like to share them with you. In return, if you have found sites that have useful information, please pass them along. The links below are not links to just any sites, these are the sites that I have found to be really useful, time and again in the battle to become better at and more knowledgeable about 40k. This is an ongoing article, and I will add to it as other highly useful pages come up. I do intend to keep this links list very exclusive, however, so don’t be disappointed if your site doesn’t go up here right away. Once you’ve got a lot of good content, it will show up here. Read on to find the real secrets of the universe!

The Fighting Tigers of Veda. This site is one that I found early on and the discussions about tactics and why he chose certain things for his army have really helped me, both in the very beginning and to this day. This site includes a truly different take on “vanilla” marines as well as useful tactics and tons of information about every aspect of the 40k hobby. Incidentally, this site is what inspired me to create my very own website, as well.

Welcome To The Jungle!

Warp Shadow. This is a Tyranid forum and website that was created from the Tyranids Yahoo group. There are quite a few amazing individuals here and loads of talent. It features a great gallery and loads of cool fluff, plus lots of intelligent discussion about the bugs we know and love. This is the forum I frequent the most, you can find me as Elttaes.

Warpshadow

Adeptus Astartes: Emerald Tigers. This excellent site is dedicated to a successor chapter of the Fighting Tigers of Veda and has great fiction and discussions of all parts of the hobby.

The Egroups Imperial Guard 1st
Yahoo Groups has quite a few discussion groups. For the most part, you’ll have to find your own way. Like websites, not all groups are created equal. Some are out of use, some have no fresh ideas and some are populated by flaming idiots. There are a few, however, that are well-regulated and have thriving memberships and encourage new and interesting discussion as well as questions from those that have just started and barely know what to ask yet. Okay, there’s actually only one that I’ve found that does all of that. Sign up for the EGIG 1st. It is an Imperial Guard group, but people from all armies post questions and answers and have intelligent discussions under the watchful eyes of The Commissar and the EGIG Officers (moderators.) One thing, when you sign up, read the Hey Maggot file (the FAQ) in the files section, it explains everything pretty well.

The Millennium Gate.

This website has a lot of good content, but is also the host of the Millennium Gate Forum, where a number of very experienced players go for discussions about various parts of the hobby. There is an excellent section devoted to discussing rules questions and how different people interpret the rules. There is also a good section on modeling with some excellent painters and modelers that are willing to share their secrets. There are many other sections as well, devoted to individual armies and 40k in general. This is a great place to find information or just talk to people who share a common interest. I post here as Dracon El T’taes, so look me up and say hi!

The Millenium Gate

The Blood Drinkers.
This is a website that is devoted primarily to Blood Angels, but the excellent articles on tactics and other subjects are quite useful to any 40k player. Although it is no longer updated frequently, there is a lot of good insight and discussion here that can help with any army.

The Blood Drinkers

The Warp
This is a good hobby site, with lots of tips on painting and making terrain and other things, but it also features a large list of links, some of which, such as The Tigers of Veda and The Millennium Gate, are quite good.

The Warp

New Paintbrush's Warhammer40k Strategies and Tactics Page
Although it hasn't been updated in a very long time, there is a lot of good, solid tactical information here and a very coherent, though long, explanation of how different armies and plans interact.

The Eldar Language Guide
There have been interesting bits and pieces of the Eldar Language strewn throughout 40k fluff over the years. David Donachie has pieced it together and come up with a very coherent language system. This is a very interesting site and contains a lot of useful information about Eldar language and names. This is where I got the name for my Dark Eldar Kabal, Rillishelwe Mor (see if you can find out what it means) and information for some of my Dark Eldar fluff as well.
